Review Killing Them Softly (2012)

genre: crime, drama

THIS IS BRUTAL,BRILLIANT FILM-MAKING
No, it is not. It is actually very average.

IMMENSELY GRIPPING
Seriously??? Apart from a few scenes there was nothing that really caught or deserved attention. Not once felt I really compelled to watch. I could not wait for this movie to be over.

A CLASSIC
Not happening.  How can a an average film ever become a classic.I got bored watching it the first time. Do you think I will be possible to watch it over and over again?

Politics, economics, capitalism, allegory and unique. These are terms I came across in comments about this film. And that all sounds interesting but is that what sticks with the viewer after he has seen this? Not this one. All I saw was an average crime movie trying to be sophisticated while it is not. Killing Them softly has a few good scenes and is bearable at times because of Brad Pitt and Ben Mendelsohn. All the other actors including Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini and Sam Shepard are wasted. Why have actors of such a high caliber around and not do anything worthwhile with them? There probably are several messages that the director wants to get across. I for one couldn't care less. Not because I am not open for it. Just because the director failed to made me see why I should care. The last lines uttered by Jackie (Brad Pitt) may even be true but does not make it smart or profound. It doesn't make you think hmmmm, why did I not see that before? Maybe Killing Them Softly is not meant for the world to see but is meant for Americans to look in the mirror. Even then there is no excuse for bringing such an average plot with no surprises at all. Very disappointing!
