If at this point you are still thinking of buying a PS5 Pro you have to stop and think for a minute. Sony claim a relatively marginal improvement on PS5. Normally, companies exaggerate what their products can do, so in your mind you should deduct the percentage of improvement by like twenty percent. But OK, let's say the improvement is decent enough. Worth 800 euro's?
What if you have a collection of discs? The costs of a disc drive probably are around 120 euros. But the news is that scalpers got a hold of these, so expect much higher prices. Add the 30 euros for the vertical stand, and you probably have to pay around 1000 euros (including shipping costs).
People, that is insanity! The PS5 Pro is not going to wow you. Unless you are one of the rare ones that can see pixels very clearly. Big chance you aren't even going to notice a difference. I get that some people don't want to fiddle with their systems and therefore aren't eager to purchase a PC. But you can definitely get a system that outdoes the PS5 with ease. And if future proving is something you care for, you can save up for a system with 4080 or 4090, and you will be set for at least 10 years if not longer. Hell, even with my mid-range setup, I can still play current games if I tweak the settings.
Realistically speaking, this would the smartest move since the PS6 is going to be worse. It's going to be more expensive than the PS5 pro, and it won't be coming with big improvements. Just look what was promised with PS5 and what is actually delivered. It's been highly disappointing. Only a few games have managed to deliver that next gen experience on console while the PC even on my mid-range PC surprised me graphicswise. Often it's also that some developers don't optimize their games that well. They are too reliant on upscaling measures or other tricks to fool the player.
Sometimes, it's not even the resolution that matters. But more with what is done with the special effects and textures. The textures alone makes a huge difference. The PC has so many settings you can tweak where the consoles have not. Understandable, we have to assume that the configurations they came up with are the best. But even on the PS5 Pro, the advanced graphics will come at the costs of frame rate. Mind you, one of the biggest sells from Sony and Microsoft for current gen was the fact that it would offer ray tracing and therefore insane graphics. Both companies have failed to deliver this. Am I supposed to believe that advanced ray tracing is really going to be that much better? I highly doubt it. But here is something that may surprise you. I don't care. Yes, I can see that ray tracing makes the game look beautiful. I have seen modders get the most out of a game this way. But it always comes at a cost. And lower frame rates are a problem for me. Even in a single player game. The game will still look good with ray tracing turned off and the settings set to high. Smooth gameplay and beautiful graphics beats gorgeous graphics and stuttering.
For me, the XBOX SERIES X and Playstation 5 will be the last consoles I own. I could be persuaded if somebody gifts me newer consoles. I mean, I am crazy, but not an idiot. Still, me buying new mainstream consoles? Highly unlikely. They aren't worth it. I think both Microsoft and Sony have forgotten that consoles made it relatively easy to play games for a reasonable price. Consoles haven't been reasonably prized in years. And yes, I am aware that the consoles cost more than what they are sold for. But it's not like Microsoft and Sony haven't been milking every cent out of their customer to make up for it.
So yeah, screw this!
