Powers ( based on a comic book) shows us a world where super heroes have been part of society for a considerate time and where people are used to them being around. They generally are idolized but also feared because they are incredible powerful and therefore dangerous. We are introduced to a special task force that has to deal with rogue super heroes who are called powers. One of the members is Christian Walker who used to be a power himself (played by Sharlto Copley). Christian previously Diamond somehow lost his powers and became a cop. While I personally get a little tired of this specific plot element it is nice to see how an ex power copes with the loss. And let's face it. If you were super strong and could fly would you not feel emasculated. Especially because of the way Copley performs his role. He is brilliant as always. Next to powers you have power wannabe's. And most of them want to be because of the fame and fortune instead of actually helping out people out of some sense of duty or responsibility. Christian Walker and his new partner are faced with horrible deaths of these powers wannabe's and it is up to them to figure out who is behind them. This in itself might sound pretty average if it weren't for the super hero element in it. However Powers is a slow burner. It does take it's sweet time to add intrigue and become real thrilling. I would say around at the end of episode 3 it becomes real interesting. But even then you will have to endure some slow episodes. Still there is a lot brewing underneath and obviously some events are setting up the next season. If you ask me this show deserves to be watched if only for Sharlto Copley, Eddie Izzard and Noah Taylor. Plus this show does not hold back on blood and gore. Although I must admit some effects looked a little dated and odd. Like they were ripped straight from an older video game. Not sure if that was meant to be a reference to the fact that this is a show produced by Playstation Network. Overall I think this show is worth watching as I am sure it is going to be a real thrill ride next season. If you liked Heroes and Alphas you will like this one as well.
