Review Goldeneye Reloaded (PS3) played on RPCS3 | RX 9070 XT/9800X3D: It's decent up to a point!

genre: action, fps

GoldenEye Reloaded is a very loose remake of the N64 classic, and that is actually its blessing. Basically, this is a retelling of GoldenEye, but with some parts changed to set up some levels.

In some ways this is good, and in some ways this is bad. Certain levels definitely are unexpected and fun, like the tank level. GoldenEye is one of my favourite Bond films, and I do remember the tank sequence. I don't remember it being so destructive. And that is so much fun. Unfortunately, I wish I could say the same about the majority of the levels. These are average FPS levels where you have to defeat most, if not all, of the enemies before you can proceed. After a few levels or so, I was bored with the game and had to stop playing until I felt like playing again. What really is mind-boggling to me is that this game was begging for alternative methods of dealing with them and that there are no Bond moments. You could use stealth, but it would take forever, with no real bonus. This meant I ended up blasting and taking cover when needed.

In short sessions, GoldenEye will be fun. But the game will cheat on you, and that is laughable. For example. The final boss. It doesn't matter whether you shoot repeatedly at the boss. Head or heart. He will continue to come at you after a couple of sequences have played out. You are then to retreat and then do something to end the mission. It's here that the game allows you to do what you need to do. So stupid. But before you reach this final mission, you have to go through something that is utterly fantastical and incredible. But not fun. Just tedious.

Unlike Bloodstone, I don't feel like returning to this game very soon. I missed almost all of the trophies, and you know what? I don't care. I am glad I got to play this game, but now that I have finished it; it will remain the first and last time I have played this game. Maybe one day I will return, but not in the near future.
