When The End of Oak Street was announced, I wasn't really compelled. But over time, after the heavy praise, I kind of wanted to watch it. I did. And I wish I hadn't.
Knowing that dinosaurs were going to be featured, I kept my expectations in check. I would have been perfectly OK with some nice dinosaur action and thrills. I was waiting and waiting, but those thrills weren't there. Maybe one scene, and that one ended on a comical note that tonally wasn't in line with how the film presented itself. What was supposed to be fun ended up being one boring mess. The acting was decent, I guess, but almost everything that I consider good filmmaking was subpar. Let me give you some context. I would rather watch Primitive War than this. That is like a glorified C film that knows what it is and commits to it in the second part of the film.
I really tried hard to like this film, to get into the events. But I just couldn't. I didn't feel anything for the characters nor for what was happening. In hindsight, I am glad that the duration was 99 minutes. But it felt like it was a lot longer. That is never good. And I do believe that, had the film taken more time to set up events and dedicated more time to expressing the absurdity of the situation, this film would have been better.
