Foundation is a little hard to summarize without spoiling. But it encompasses the whole galaxy and everything part of this galaxy. It's based on the works of author Isaac Asimov. Another one of his works is I, Robot. That being said, a lot of what occurs in the show is not from the books. I don't know exactly why this is the case, but I am happily to report that the show doesn't suffer from this poor decision.
