Review A Moment of Romance a.k.a. Tin joek yau ching (1990): Most overrated crap ever!

genre: action, romance, drama,

If you look up this title, you will notice that quite a few people praise the hell out of this film. I hope the majority of these people are confused. Otherwise, these people have no taste whatsoever. Yes, I said it. If you disagree with me, then explain to me what is so great about this film.

The whole Stockholm Syndrome affair is beyond stupid and unbelievable. But even if I were willing to go with it, the rest of the story is nonsense. Almost everything is a half-assed retread of every crime / drama trope you can imagine. Every event is predictable and pointless.  It's melodrama for the sake of drama without actually infusing the story with legitimate reasons for characters to be affected. At one point, Wah (Andy Lau) has the chance to put behind his criminal life and be with his new-found love. What does he do? He marries her and then leaves her. Why then even marry her? It's so selfish and quite cruel but more importantly, nonsensical.

I could have stomached this BS had the action been great. Well, it's not. The few action sequences that are present are boring. Mostly sword play, some slapping and some kicking. Nothing else. How this gets branded as Heroic Bloodshed is beyond me.

Overall, a giant waste of time. Skip it. The people who are praising this film are either dishonest or stupid!
