For someone like me, it is hard to swallow that there aren't proper B movies any more. I grew up in a time when, you would visit a rental video shop to get the latest and newest triple AAA titles. Back then, it could take some time for those to be released on video. So what was a film fan like me to do in the meantime? To check out the large number of B films that provided all the action goodness that was available. Striking Rescue is exactly the title I would turn to. I can't tell you how happy I am that at least one country is doing their best to provide for this market.
But you have to realize, there is a reason why these are B titles. Often they had a considerable low budget and less time to produce. The end result is that the action might be less fancy and sophisticated. Sure, one could demand this, but is that always necessary? I don't think so. The action displayed in Striking Rescue is simple but raw and brutal. Tony Jaa is a force to be reckoned with, and he demonstrates this time and time again. One kick and knee jab from him, is enough to put someone out of commission. There are some cool moments to be had, that made me chuckle with happiness. Nowhere near the level of Ong-Bak or Tom-Yum-Goong but certainly superior to Triple Threat,
While the story is far from complicated, it does what it needs to do. It serves as motivation for the action. It does elevate some events to maximum. And to be honest, that is all I want. Sometimes, you just want to lay back and enjoy the action and nothing else. One might think, that Tony Jaa not speaking the language would be a problem. It doesn't. It is implied he understands, except can't speak it. Quite a realistic and practical approach.
Overall, this is a Tony Jaa title I can recommend!
