Come with me if you want to live without your brain getting fried. Even being prepared for the worst I could not imagine that it could be this bad. Seriously I don't even know where to begin how wrong this is.
First off, if you have seen the trailer you already know most of the story. Why oh why would they spoil all of the twist and turns? It's beyond idiotic. But guess it was my own fault not closing my eyes and ears in the cinema when they showed it. (So if possible avoid the trailer at all costs. It will seriously damage a large portion of your viewing experience.) Anyways I still wanted to watch Terminator Genisys since I had hoped that it would offer more than the insane narrative. Especially in the action department. And it looked like it did at first. Some playful and comedic references to the original by good old Arnold himself made me hopeful. The action scenes that followed looked promising as well. Then frustration and boredom kicked in and never let up. I was very willing to take all the bad plot points for what they were and let myself get immersed with it's spectacle and action. Except there was none. At least not of the intensity I could enjoy it. That was mostly because of the context the action was placed in. One of the main flaws is that I could not give a damn about any of the characters. Except maybe Arnie as Pops. Apart from the plot screwing up a lot of the essential dynamics between the main characters. The film also suffers from some incredible poor casting. Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese is as compelling as all the other characters he has played in his previous films. I am sorry but I fail to see the appeal. I don't think he is the worst actor there is but he does not know how to breathe life into his roles. Emily Clarke was decent but sorry to say also wrong for the role as Sarah.
Jason Clarke seems to be very aware that he needs to play it over the top and that you can't take this movie seriously. However even when you try not to it still won't let you have fun. The lack of creativity and effort on the film makers suck out all of the joy that you have inside. I feel real sorry for good actors J.K. Simmons and Matt Smith. They try hard to make it worth your while. But their attempts get shot down by poor direction, poor story telling, poor action, poor drama, in short poor film making. Genisys feels like a fan made movie by people who have no clue why the first two were so good in the first place. There should be a law against that.
There is so much more I could say, but why bother. Why waste so many words? AVOID, IGNORE! Forget the existence of this film. Trust me you will be so much happier. If you need to stop the craving for anything Terminator, you are better off watching the previous films in the franchise and yes even Terminator 3.
