Review Ponyo (2008)

 genre: animation, fantasy

Sometimes you really don't need a real story to bring magic to the screen as Hayao Myazaki shows in Ponyo. From the first scene until the last you will be enthralled and intrigued by what is going on. It's not entirely clear what is going on or why it is going on but it does not really matter. Since key is to know that there is an instant relationship between a fish like creature and a young boy. Every event that involves them is cute and breathtaking. It is being said that Ponyo is aimed at little kids alone. I am inclined to dispute this since there are themes present that are for all ages. However they are very subtle and less obvious apart from the friendship and love relation. Do you need reasons why the things happen when they happen. In this case not at all. You just sit back and let you overwhelm by the beauty of what unfolds on your screen. Still you need to have an imagination or be able to drift away from reality. Then 100 minutes will fly by and fill you up with love and satisfaction. What more do you want?
