Review Speak No Evil (2022): If you loved Linus so much why weren't you holding him?

genre: horror, thriller, drama

The remake of Speak No Evil got released two days ago. But back when this film was announced, and I found out it was a remake, I was wondering whether to watch the original first. In this case, it seemed the right decision.

Almost very early on in the film we are introduced to a Dutch couple with a son who kind of intrude onto a Danish couple with a daughter. Bjørn played by Morten Burian is what you call a soft man. He is a pushover and far from being proactive. It's very easy to determine why someone could take advantage of that. Patrick played by Fedja van Huêt does a good job of playing a difficult but somewhat charismatic character since he knows when to tone down the crazy. Although to be fair. To me, it didn't seem like the Danish couple weren't really enjoying the company of the Dutch couple that much. So it's a real mystery to me why they would exchange addresses. If it were me, I would play nice but not exchange any sensitive and personal information about me. And definitely would not take up the invitation to spend the weekend with them.

I really don't like films like these because 99 percent of the time the main characters rarely act like real people would. I was getting real frustrated and angry for the Danish couple to be overly polite to people who clearly were pushing it. They had the right idea at one point, but then change their minds because they are incapable of asserting domination towards their daughter. That is real sad. But there are many other moments where you are wondering why the Danish couple are so passive.

Overall, this is a very frustrating viewing experience because there are so many times things could have been overturned or remedied. The ending is therefore pretty hard to swallow.
