Monsters Inc. was funny and extremely entertaining but most important it was finished. It already did the most what it could do with the premise. The sequel (prequel) Monsters University shows this. It's basically a rehash and explores the same themes as in the original. And while it also entertains to me it wasn't particularly memorable. It almost felt soulless and empty. Nothing new was being told or added. At least in the Toy Story franchise they focused on different elements of childhood and nostalgia to keep things fresh. Here it was just the same story that gets old real fast since it is actually not that interesting. The best I can say about Monsters University is that it is solid and decent. For people expecting this to be good as the original or the other animated movies from Disney and Pixar will be disappointed.
