Review American Reunion a.k.a. American Pie 4 a.k.a. American Pie: Reunion (2012)

genre: comedy

American Reunion is what you expect only slightly moderate and slower paced which does work in it's favour. The cast of the earlier movies are present and clearly they have become older. Have they matured as well? In most cases they haven't at all. Which I thought for some characters did not work well especially because the actors who were playing the characters clearly had matured. Except Allison Hannigan and Jason Biggs. Of course it is the way they are written but you would expect people who have become parents themselves not act so childish. Especially when it comes to sex. The drives were there but apparently it was difficult for them to share it together. Being playful is one thing here it simply was juvenile. Juvenile or not it still made me chuckle. Jim (Jason Biggs) keeps getting reminded of his previous adventures which felt a little forced but did made me smile. His last escapades unfortunately weren't nearly as funny as the famous apple pie scene from the first movie. They tried real hard to embarrass him with the S&M gear and all. But frankly that was just silly. It's 2012 and S&M will not raise any eyebrows. Enter Sean William Scott a.k.a. The Stiffmeister. He clearly was the best of what American Reunion has to offer. He has the funniest scenes. One really gross one, but that was to be expected from Stiffler. American Reunion is filled with nostalgia and references that might be lost on you if you haven't seen the first movies. Because of that this one is mostly for the fans of the franchise!
