Installing Fallout: New Vegas Mods.
To start, you'll need quite a few programs which are available. The first and one of the most important programs you'll need is the Nexus Mod Manager. This allows you to easily install and keep track of any mods that you either download or install to Fallout New Vegas. It also allows you to uninstall any mods easily as well.
You
can find the download for Nexus Mod Manager here:
http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/modmanager/?
Installing
the program is pretty simple, just go through the installer by
clicking next all the way through. Once it's finished installing
choose the launch nexus mod manager option then click finish to load
the program. Once it loads it'll start searching for any compatible
games that you currently have installed, this includes mods for
Oblivion, Fallout 3, Dragon Age and Skyrim to name a few. All of
these are managed by this program. Once it finds the installation
folder for Fallout New Vegas, simply click Ok and it'll ask you which
game you wish to load Nexus Mod Manager for, choose New Vegas. Once
the program finally opens you'll be able to use the full range of
features the mod manager has to offer.
The
easiest way to install mods to your game is to go to a mods download
section, for example here:
http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40040/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fnewvegas%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D40040&pUp=1
Then
click the download with manager option and it'll automatically
download to nexus mod manager if there's an option available. Some
mods will require advanced setup in the mod manager and allow you to
choose various options based on the mod itself. This isn't always the
case but for more advanced mods that's what'll happen.
Then
once the download completes you'll need to activate it in the mod
manager. Just double click the mod name in the manager and it'll
activate.
Continue
doing this until all the desired mods are installed.
I
highly recommend launching the game at certain intervals between
downloads to make sure the game still works correctly and you haven't
botched anything. It's very easy to install mods that are
incompatible with each other and they can botch the game installation
if you aren't careful (This has happened to me countless times). So
every 3 or 4 mods that you install load the game up and make sure
things are still working correctly, if they are continue with 3 or 4
more. If the game crashes to the desktop upon loading then simply
uninstall the previous 3 or 4 mods then activate them one at a time
while starting the game after each one to find which mod is causing
the issue. Lots of trial and error goes into modding games so be
ready to do so.
A
required file that you'll need to use many mods is called NVSE or New
Vegas Script Extender. This allows the game to use advanced mods and
features. You can find the download link here:
http://nvse.silverlock.org/
Simply
extract the files in the rar file when you download it to your main
installation folder where the new vegas exe is located. You'll need
to load the game using NVSE in most cases for mods to work correctly.
For
finding mods I recommend using this website as it houses many useful
mods for the game: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/?
Star
Wars Empire at War Modding
For
Star Wars Empire at War mods I recommend using this website:
http://www.moddb.com/mods?filter=t&kw=Search+...&released=&style=def&theme=&game=12103&type=
Currently
there are lots of to be determined for release mods that are
currently in production but there are also quite a few finished mods
as well.
Installing
Mods for Empire at War works quite a bit differently than Fallout New
Vegas, you'll have to manually install the mods to a specific folder
in the game's installation.
As
an example we'll be using this mod as a tutorial:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/thrawns-revenge
To
install this mod to the steam version of the game you'll need to
download the zip file version included in the downloads section. Once
you have it completely downloaded you'll need to locate where the
game is installed, eg: C:\programfiles\steam\steamapps\common\star
wars empire at war\ corruption.
Once
you've located the folder you'll need to then create a mods folder in
the corruption folder. Right click anywhere in the folder > new >
folder. Once the mods folder is created you'll need to copy the
extracted folder from the mod you downloaded into the mods folder.
To
successfully use the mod when you load the game you'll first need to
open steam, go to your library, right click on star wars empire at
war, then choose properties. Once there click on launch options then
add this line: MODPATH=Mods\Imperial_Civil_War
After
this simply close properties and click play star wars empire at war
and select forces of corruption. To play the original game or another
mod you just have to reverse the previous 4 steps.
I
hope that helps folks!
