Xie Miao, also known as Mo Tse, has been in the industry for a long time. But only now is he getting the recognition he deserves for his role in The Furious, a.k.a. Huo zhe yan (2025), which I still have to see myself. He is best known for his role as Jet Li's son in My Father Is a Hero. I didn't realize this otherwise, I might have picked up this title sooner.
He is great in this, but you do have to take into account that this film is insane. You are supposed to take it seriously, but that is kind of hard to do when you realize that this is basically a comic book film where things happen that you cannot possibly take seriously. Once you realize this, the film is pretty entertaining. Lots of gunplay and some cool fights. Although not as plentiful as I was expecting. The film also suffers from a convoluted plot with some twists and turns that you can predict. Normally, I can appreciate the effort. Only in this case, it's in the way of the action. For an action film that should never happen. Andy On, as the villain, has his moments, but he clearly is out of his depth. He simply doesn't have the chops to pull off the man with the past thing. Still, I didn't dislike his performance.
