The Haunted Apartment: Miss K a.k.a. Panggonan Wingit 2: Miss K (2024)

I didn't realize this was a sequel to Panggonan Wingit, but that maybe because it's a sequel in name and perhaps premise only.

So, what I did think of this film. Well, like the first, it's decent enough. But doesn't offer the dread and suspense films like these benefit from. One could argue that the gore would satisfy some fans. Yet, it didn't impact me in the slightest. For the most part because it didn't terrify. I thought that the lead and other characters in the film were acting more stupid than in the original. Why would people allow heavy leakages and not force the staff to fix the problem. Obviously, there are some reasons. Still, if I were to rent an apartment and I couldn't use it because of those leakages, I would be very angry and would at least demand a different apartment or my money back. Anyway, new staff member Alma looks into the issue and finds herself confronted by two ghosts who give her 4 days. This is when Alma and everybody close to her get in jeopardy.

I must say that these ghosts didn't make much sense. Sure, there is a reason why they are ghosts. But they seem to be targeting random people instead of the ones that are responsible for their deaths. And then the 4 days rule. I haven't paid as much attention as I should, but as far as I can tell, there is no logic to the 4 days rule. If I am not mistaken, this could be ripped from the urban tale this film is based on. Only the film never explains this.

Overall, I wouldn't say this is a waste of your time. But I do think the original was slightly better. This sequel is yet another haunted house story without the scares and creepiness. If only they had done their best to actually build up dread and deliver on true scares.

Pusaka a.k.a. The Heirloom(2024)

Honestly, I don't even know where to start this one. It's an incredibly messy film, with a decent premise, only the execution of this premise is incredibly laughable.

A bunch of people are trapped in a building where a curse is released. This curse manifests through people, as the ones stabbed with this magical knife turn into unrelenting zombies. They are on the mission to kill 7 people before the curse rests again. I have to admit, that there were sequences in the film that gave me joy. The blood and gore might be the CGI kind, they did help elevate the horror. Especially, involving the zombies. What I didn't like was how passive the people were. They were just waiting for things to happen instead of doing something. Even when they did something, they managed to undermine themselves by not following through. It makes it hard to root for them. Only a few of them are decent human beings. Some of them are downright selfish and nonsensical. They deserved to die.

The film has a very Evil Dead vibe to it, but before you get overjoyed, keep your expectations in check. It's nowhere near as good. Actually, it made me want to watch those classics again.
Overall, I can't possibly recommend this!
