Alex Browning played by Devon Sawa gets a premonition about his flight to France. He freaks out and manages to get himself and a few others out of the plane, which explodes soon after, as he had predicted.
Naturally, such an event has some consequences. Apparently, Death doesn't like to be cheated and wants to follow through with his plan. Wasn't it GOD who decides who dies. Here it's Death himself and gets extremely creative when forced to forge new plans. And I am all for it, because these deaths are hilarious. You do have to take these with a grain of salt because I doubt in real life the deaths would play out as presented, by this film and the ones that came after. It really doesn't matter. I think a large factor that makes this film fun is that instead of a person, it's death himself who kills. It's so outrageous yet kind of makes sense.
That doesn't stop the authorities from looking into Alex as the main suspect. I do think the film give a realistic reaction from people towards him. It is a terrifying notion that someone predicted the future so correctly. How did he know? Why did he know? Is he responsible? It will make you think differently about the world.
As a straight horror, this film delivers enough. It will make you anxious about how people are going to die. The question of who is doing the killing is not of importance. It's one of those things in life that is inevitable. But will this stop people from fighting? Final Destination at least tries something new within the slasher genre. It doesn't completely succeed in bringing terror, but boy is it fun!
