As far as I can recall, I haven't seen pure horror titles from Hong Kong. Usually, the titles that are designated as horror also have other genres mixed in, like comedy and / or action. In general, this leads to insane films you hardly can take seriously. I would say that The Seventh Curse falls into this category.
You are supposed to take every event seriously. There is enough blood and gore to back that up, unfortunately, the other genres take over. It's therefore more an action flick with some horror elements for extra flavour. And I have to admit, that in this case, it does lead to some interesting scenes. I wished I could describe these scenes to you. But big chance if I did, you wouldn't believe me. For films like these, it's better to go with the flow and not think too hard about logic and such.
I do have a problem with one thing, though. And that is, if you look up the film, Chow Yun-Fat's name is prominently mentioned. Naturally, you would believe he is the lead. He is not. He is barely in this film. Not even enough to make a solid side character. So don't make the mistake, like I did, of thinking you will get Chow. Not that the other actors aren't worth it. But they clearly tried to capitalize on his name, and I don't like to be fooled like that.
Overall, the film does deliver many cool moments, but for me, it wasn't that memorable.
