Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday is a prime example of how to do a sequel properly. Scott Adkins was very ambitious and passionate about the original, only to me, it wasn't exactly clear why that was. Now after having seen this sequel I understand it a little better.
I also want to point out that Scott Adkins apparently has taken the criticism to heart and has corrected and improved certain flaws that were present in the original. The comedy, for example. I got that Accident Man was supposed to be a comedy, but never actually provided the laughs. Well, this film was pretty funny. It feels like that they finally found the right tone for a project like this. The story and characterization definitely has improved significantly. Mike Fallon certainly is a deeper and more complex character now. He has a lot more personality.
The sidekick characters also are a fine addition, as they provide most of the fun through their interactions with Fallon. Wong Siu-ling as the loudmouth Chinese woman is easily the funniest. She is hired by Fallon to keep him on his toes. Let's just say she takes her job very seriously. It's very reminiscent of the interactions between Inspector Clouseau and Cato. I don't know if they were inspired by that, but I personally loved it.
The hitmen / assassins this time around are more impressive. Starting with the one played by Zara Pythian. I honestly was very surprised to see her since she had severe legal problems and even got imprisoned. I am not going into that but let's just say that this role will probably her last for a long time provided she is featured in other ones that still have to be released. But her entrance was slick and cool, where some gun fu is mixed up with hard-hitting hand-to-hand combat. Not going to lie, because I wasn't expecting this, I felt immense joy. Not going to spoil the others, but you are in for a treat. Although I do think that the fight with the clown lasts a little too long. They could have taken that to the next level, as this clown supposedly doesn't feel any pain. Why not have him act like The Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Sure it wouldn't have been original, would have been hilarious though.
For the most part the film flows well except for the clown fight and scenes with Mrs. Zuuzer. She wasn't bad or anything, only she wasn't fleshed out that well. I also didn't really buy her as a mafia boss. It's just a minor complaint I have. Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday is far from perfect but definitely a vast improvement on the original and dare I say it. This might just be the best film Scott Adkins has made so far!
