Low Budget Sci Fi as it should be. Gross, thrilling and surreal. Does it make sense? Of course not. But when has that been so important in movies about creepy aliens. What does seperate Xtro from the usual monster movies is the fact that there are psychological themes thrown in that give it that something extra. Which provide some visually interesting sequences. These scenes are a bit random and could have steered this movie into another direction. But sadly apart from the visuals nothing is done with it so those scenes in the end remain substance less. And that could be said of the whole movie. While there are hints of interesting themes in the end nothing is done with them. Is that a bad thing? No, because there is more than enough going on (visually) although one really has to like these type of movies because it is hardly subtle.
