A video review is coming, but until then, here are brief thoughts. Kraven the Hunter has be designated the worst Sony verse comic book film in the franchise. And like with the others, there is one main reason for that. These films don't work without Spider-Man. Kraven is a villain, who could be considered honourable. But make no mistake, he is a villain. This film is trying real hard to turn him into a good person who can be dangerous. In the same vein as they did with Venom. The fact that Venom has no problems consuming people should be overlooked. I don't really understand why Sony keeps doing this. They should just let him be the villain he is.
And for like twenty minutes, Kraven the Hunter, is actually good. Both me and Mrs. P. were wondering why, the film wasn't received well. Then the film took a turn for the worse. While one could argue whether it is bad or not, it certainly was ultra boring. The film is rather uneventful. But the worst is the fact that not much is done with the father and sons dynamics. Russel Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff didn't really add that much. Nikolai is not your typical father. Let's say his values are different. But do the sons really do anything significant against that? No. Here you have, an excellent actor, and you don't make use of him properly. I would have liked seeing Nikolai losing his shit, then have Sergei prove him wrong and overpower him. THEY NEVER DO THIS!
It's not that Kraven the Hunter is terrible. It isn't. But it's so average and super boring at times, that there is no good reason to watch any of it. They could have remedied most of it with bringing us top-notch action. But no, they couldn't even do that.
Overall, Kraven the Hunter could have made the character more compelling. But like with most comic book characters, Hollywood doesn't really respect that. Not worth your time!
