Review Sinners (2025): Overhyped and overrated!

genre: action, drama, horror

After all this hype and praise, I finally got the chance to watch the film for myself. And don't let me beat around the bush, I was heavily disappointed.

The film fails in so many ways, I don't even know where to begin. First, what was the point of the double role of Michael B. Jordan? Did it really add something significant? No! I like him, but he is reaching the point where he is so full of himself in thinking he is one of the greatest actors in the world. He isn't. He can be decent. But if anything, this double role just points out how limited he is. Take away the costume, and you would think he is playing the same character twice.

Second, for a horror flick, it takes too long for the supernatural element to kick in. It takes around 50 minutes for something truly horrifying to happen. I was game for a half hour or so and then lost interest because while the film takes it's time to follow the characters, you don't learn that much. At least not to the extent that requires all this time. If you are going this route, you need to make sure we are going to explore these characters fully. Although, even if they did, it wouldn't matter seeing how the events unfolded.

Third, when things do seem to be start happening, the events weren't as impactful as they could have been. The old rules are followed, which I liked, but apart from that, nothing truly exceptional is added into the mix. One could argue, that the musical element is important. Yes, I am not going to deny, that this was good and enjoyable. But does it really stand out that much? No, it doesn't. Still, I have to admit it. I liked the guy being beaten up to the rhythm of the music.

The acting is decent. I did like the world that was presented to us. I just didn't like how they mixed that up with the horror elements. In a certain way, it felt very forced. Mind you, if it weren't for these elements, I don't think I would have been so patient. But if, like me, you are a horror fan, you are going to be disappointed. It's so generic and uneventful.

Overall, this film is too overrated and overhyped. It doesn't live up to it. I can't possibly recommend this!
