The Awakening starts promising and introduces the viewer to a woman who is intelligent and is active as a ghost hunter.
It becomes clear she has her reasons for exposing people pretending to be ghosts in order to take advantage. Apart from a female lead nothing much original here. Isn't it always about a skeptic who has to be proved wrong? Then we go through all the clichés that are tied to this genre, but with a promise of something more haunting. Only that promise never gets fulfilled. Don't get me wrong, I was very much entertained, but I could not help but be a little disappointed with the overall result. Largely because predictable twists are used. Which would not have been an issue if other elements were showing that they at least tried to be creative. The director plays it safe, which in the end hurts the movie a little.
Entertaining but predictable.
